Vertical Farming
Read an article on Vertical Farming on 'The Economist'. As people are migrating to the cities in huge numbers farm lands are getting converted to rela estates and farmers are not enjoying the benefits of the so called white collar jobs, farm output is diminishing. To bridge this gap, farming should happen where people dwell on the most..the answer is cities. In multilevel or vertical farming, green house gases are used in a controlled environment. Water with minerals is used to irrigate the floor. The challenge is sunlight availability to the plants in all storeys. Hence a scientist proposed, a rotating storeys. So that sunlight is available evenly. Though vertical farming sound practical, it is efficiency needs some more evidences!!
PPF
This year can be termed as an investment year. Came to the avenues available for tax exemption. PPF or Public Provident Fund is an excellent investment option for those who look for tax emption as well as long term wealth creation. A PPF a/c can be opened in any of State Bank groups or in post office. 8.5% cumulative interest is given. Minimum amount that can be invested is 500 rupees. Max is 70,000 rupees. Experts say for long term wealth creation, we should exhaust this investment option. A 70,000 investment in PPF for 15 yrs will yield you 20,00,000 in 16th year. Also this is not taxable.

President election at MCity
First week of March was full of energy as we prepared to contest in the MCity President election. In our party, many senior members such as Sachi, Balaji (Nominee), Gayathri and Navin were there. Our initial brainstorming of naming the party and party member designations was awesome as we had full of humor. First day of campaigning comprised filing the papers and holding the torch. Some party members had awesome display on the first day with politician like attire, umbrella and gang-bang. We had just a party pooper which turned out to be face-safer that day. We ordered for flags and banners at Parrys. We got them delivered on the second day of campaigning. Second day we had decent show since CRM folks also participated in the campaigning in large numbers. Third day we did some campaigning. But our opponents did a fantastic job in campaigning. They were creative in their mailers and hardcore politician ways. Finally 'Republic of Infosys' won with huge margin thanks to their untiring efforts from the start till the end. We learnt many things during the period. Rajeev, Rajani were always there for ground level work.

New year on a charity note
This New year (2010) was indeed different. Rather than just wishing 'Happy Newyear', I wanted to gather people who want to contribute for the needy. We collected some money in our team. We could get aroung 8000 INR. We splitted the money for three charities. One of us went to the Orphanage near Porur and donated the money through Sneham. Sasi went to one more such home. Venkat and I went to Little Flower convent and handed over the money. The sister arranged food for the inmates for dinner. Before starting the charity work back in office we had a cake cutting ceremony followed by games that kids play. Just recollected the saying some wiseman that 'Youngsters are kids in big bodies!'
